The Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel is responsible for developing and implementing the intellectual property strategy for the company, including identifying, protecting, managing and maintaining the intellectual property of the company. The IP Counsel will counsel, educate and guide team members across departments and at all levels on IP-related matters. The IP Counsel will also review and advise on IP-related matters in agreements and within the competitive landscape.
- Develop and implement strategy to identify and protect IP.
- Prepare, file, and prosecute US and foreign patent and trademark applications.
- Conduct and participate in IP related meetings to identify and counsel colleagues on IP matters.
- Coordinate and collaborate with inventors to capture and protect IP.
- Review, assess and evaluate scientific papers and documents and third-party IP.
- Provide opinions on patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, non-infringement, and other issues.
- Coordinate and manage outside IP counsel and patent annuities firm.
- Manage the company’s global patent and trademark portfolio.
- Assist with due diligence, drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of IP-related agreements
- Ensure compliance with all state, local and federal laws relating to patent and trademark issues.
- Monitor and analyze IP from potential competitors.
- Obtain and maintain a solid knowledge of the company’s business.
- Undertake and assist with other legal matters as needed.

Salary:
$165,000 - $210,000
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or life sciences from an accredited institution.
- J.D. from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice before USPTO with experience within biotechnology, food or life sciences.
- 6Ma+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Significant experience preparing and prosecuting patents.
- Strong research, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Exercises sound judgment with practical, business-oriented solutions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work productively and manage multiple simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
- Flexible and open to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective interpersonal skills across all levels of an organization.

- Colorado Bar admission.
